I remember being part of a church building project. We lined up the completion of the building with the day we wanted to begin using the building for public gatherings and meetings. Needless to say, we had to be incredibly careful with announcing dates to the public because one delayed construction deadline could throw off all of our plans.
At one early point in the journey, we were desperately praying and hoping for a few sunny days (in an early midwest Spring) so the roofers could get the place covered. The glue used needed a certain temperature (and dryness) to set or else it would be an epic waste or time & resources. This set us back, other projects were put on hold WAITING for ideal weather for the roof projected to be started & completed.
This is similar to how we are in the process of church planting. At times, we are getting restless and impatient. At times, our driven and motivated team is in need of a reminder that this is a marathon, not a sprint.
In past jobs, I got used to completing projects every week and some every single day. This is different, this involves a lot more waiting and a somewhat blind-feeling dependance on God. We are still not in phase 3 but we are so close. The temptation is to move forward without fulling completing the projects in this phase. At this time, we are restating that temptation.
I still believe the foundation being healthy and strong is the one area organizations (and individuals) can almost never go back and fix later. I love our foundation. I love our community and the rythmns of life in Arvada.
In my/our honest moments, we long for the days of more 'common' looking church structures. A non-home meeting space with a sermon and some sort of free beverage handed to you by a genuinely smiley greeter. You know what I mean. You get the picture here.
When new parents find a moment to talk to each other, they can often dream about the days when their children are older and less "baby." This is always a mistake. Pray for the current phase to be the best phase so far.
That is our current prayer and we are so thankful for your support.
